Derek is a community facilitator, poet, and advocate based on the Olympic Peninsula. With a background in journalism, housing advocacy, and social services in Port Townsend, he brings a collaborative, story-centered approach to youth engagement and community building. For the past three years, Derek has hosted Spoken Open, an all-ages open mic at The Nest, creating a welcoming space where young people and community members share their voices across generations. He is passionate about helping youth build confidence, agency, and practical skills while fostering spaces rooted in listening, creativity, and accountability.
Outside of work, Derek continues to write, perform, and invest in projects that strengthen connection and belonging.

Parliament House
This is an affordable housing project for young adults 18-25 who are experiencing homelessness, are at risk of homelessness, or fleeing an unsafe environment. We provide individualized case care and case care to the residents based on their desired outcomes.

The Youth and Young Adult Advisory Council
YYAAC council members are given an opportunity to use their voice to be leaders in our community. Members who are ages 14-25 are focused on making sure OWL360 remains a youth centered nonprofit working towards a reduction of stigma and improving resource connection.

The Nest
Community Coffee House for people of all ages where the proceeds go towards youth and young adult programming. In addition to the community coffee aspect, this space offers youth and young adult resources, connections, events, as well as a safer substance free environment.
