You can help when you see or hear about child abuse. 2) When calling, please provide as much information as possible. The more accurate information you provide, the better equipped professionals will be to assess the child's safety. A) Name, birth date, and address of the child, B) Name, address, and phone number of the child's parents or guardian, C) The nature of the extent of the abuse or neglect. D) Any evidence of previous incidents, E) Identity of the perpetrator, F) Any other information which may be helpful to establish the cause of the child's abuse or neglect.

Evidence can be used for an investigation if a police report is filed. The Dove House crisis team offers a support staff to go with you to the visit if you like. You may also bring a friend or family member. For people under age 18, the evidence is turned over to the police.  If you are 18 or older, you decide whether or not to take legal action. If you are unsure, evidence can be collected and saved anonymously for you for up to 20 years.

Description:
This limited program helps families when they are not able to provide the family's basic needs. They can help parents get paid jobs as well as cover financial costs preventing them from working such as childcare and gas. They also offer temporary financial assistance until the parent can get back to work. Minors are eligible for these assistants on a case by case basis. The Port Townsend DSHS office can conduct interviews and offer support applying for these financial assistant programs Monday through Friday between 8am-2pm.

Washington State's general age of majority for health care, meaning you can get healthcare services in Washington without an authorized adult's permission, is 18. You can read the state law about this at RCW 26.28.010.

  • Adult with parent's written permission to make health care decisions for you
