Description:
1) Call 911 and the Dept. of Children, Youth and Families at 1-866-363-4276. This is a toll free number available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can help when you see or hear about child abuse. 2) When calling, please provide as much information as possible. The more accurate information you provide, the better equipped professionals will be to assess the child's safety. A) Name, birth date, and address of the child, B) Name, address, and phone number of the child's parents or guardian, C) The nature of the extent of the abuse or neglect. D) Any evidence of previous incidents, E) Identity of the perpetrator, F) Any other information which may be helpful to establish the cause of the child's abuse or neglect.

RCW 26.44.020 (1) "Abuse or neglect" means sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation as defined in RCW 18.130.460, or injury of a child by any person under circumstances which cause harm to the child's health, welfare, or safety, excluding conduct permitted under RCW 9A.16.100; or the negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child by a person responsible for or providing care to the child. An abused child is a child who has been subjected to child abuse or neglect as defined in this section. (2) "Child" or "children" means any person under the age of eighteen years of age. Jefferson Healthcare - Sexual Assault Examiner Program (top)

Description:
If you have been sexually assaulted, Jefferson Healthcare can help. They offer free medicines to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. They also treat injuries. A trained nurse can provide a free forensic exam to collect evidence and document injuries. This exam is helpful if the assault happened within the past 5 days. Evidence can be used for an investigation if a police report is filed. The Dove House crisis team offers a support staff to go with you to the visit if you like. You may also bring a friend or family member. For people under age 18, the evidence is turned over to the police.  If you are 18 or older, you decide whether or not to take legal action. If you are unsure, evidence can be collected and saved anonymously for you for up to 20 years.
